The government should only get involved when laws are broken or if people came to them; any other situation is no of their business. Also, everybody has done something immoral at least once in their life and haven't broken any laws. Being immoral doesn't make you a delinquent.","dateCreated":"1256265459","smartDate":"Oct 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"mcintyreke","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/mcintyreke","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"15822546","body":"The government CAN encourage moral behavior BUT that doesn't mean people will listen. The only way that the government can make people more moral would be to add laws to make things illegal. This probably wouldn't work. Marijuana is illegal tons of people smoke it every day. This is the same as underage drinking. The government can try to make people more moral but they would probably continue to do whatever they want.","dateCreated":"1256265735","smartDate":"Oct 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"jsetola0910","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/jsetola0910","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1300917566\/jsetola0910-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"15824308","body":"In a way, they already do. There are certain things that people find immoral, but they would still do if it were not illegal. For example, discrimination. People, no matter how deep they bury it or don't really think about it, are judgmental. Whether it be another person's appearance or thoughts, we all judge others. In a way, if it were not illegal, there are people that would act out of those feelings and discriminate and alienate others. The law prevents these types of acts to establish equality and morality. Morally we should not do this, and legally, we can't.","dateCreated":"1256269061","smartDate":"Oct 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"leesu2","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/leesu2","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"15824594","body":"The government is in place because they are the ones that need to control the law. The law is what makes most people not want to do something, and a lot of people dont think about if what they are about to do is immoral. I personally don't want the government to be close to me at a personal level, that is just to far. So should they be able to encourage moral behavior? Sure they should be able to, but in a lot of cases they wont be as effective as family or friends. All the government should do is enforce the law and if the law makes people think about moral and immoral actions, then so be it. That is there role.","dateCreated":"1256269663","smartDate":"Oct 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"bjohnson0910","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/bjohnson0910","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1253718827\/bjohnson0910-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"15829878","body":"The government should be able encourage moral behavior to a certain extent. In fact the government has been encouraging moral behavior since the birth of America. The government tells you, don't murder people it's immoral; Don't molest kid's its immoral; Don't blow up large amounts of people at sporting events, it's immoral; Don't set fire to things\/people, it's immoral. When the government says something is "immoral" they mean illegal. When we the people think of immorality, we mean things that would give a person a guilty conscious. If the government didn't encourage us to be moral, then there would be anarchy. People would do everything that's immoral or illegal because the only real high power is the government.
