Questions:
1. Were you surprised by the ending of the book?
Yes, I was. I did not think that it would be as sad as it was. I thought that John would get back with Savannah but then realized she had moved on.
2. Did you think that Savannah was going to end up with Tim?
No, I did not. I thought originally she was going to end up with one of the guys from the trip. The first part of the book made it seem like Savannah and Tim had more of a brotherly sister relationship. It was devastating for John.
3. Do you think that John's dad would approve of his decision of what he did with the coins?
I honestly think that his dad would be upset. He spent his entire life hunting down each coin and memorizing it. Although John did a good thing by selling the coins, his father may have been a little disappointed.
4. Towards the end of the book, Savannah comes off a lot different then she was in the beginning. What were the biggest changes that you noticed?
In the beginning, she was so in love with John and all she wanted to was spend time with him. Towards the end she becomes devoted to her school work and eventually to Tim. She moved on from John and left that chapter of her life behind her. It was very sad for John and almost painful.
5. What do you think the overall theme of the story is?
At first we thought it was going to be a love story, but it turned out to be a lot more complex than that. The theme really comes out as moving on and relationships. Also growing up and realizing your future is key.
